I never thought I would love playing on ...

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 07:35 AM PDT

    PvE/PvP server..

I took a 3 month break from the game because before I was finding myself having to spend too much time on the game. The one week wipes, offline raiding, base upkeep, etc. ends up making the game feel like a chore to play because if you aren't online at 5am you can't do anything to stop getting raided. There really wasn't anything you can do about it either... I only got online raided once in 800 hours played and at least a dozen offline raids (includes attempted + success).

So I hopped on a PvE/PvP server and it was an amazing change of pace for me. Here's kind of just my bullet points.

    • People are extremely less toxic on the PvE server I was playing on. I wasn't killed outside the PvP areas once, admins take care of problem players fast, no rip off trades, and no screaming 12 year olds tea-bagging you after they kill you. It's got that small community feel because you trade with people and learn where they live after you drive around the map. You can actually trust people unlike on regular Rust.
    • Base designs are more about aesthetics instead of maximum protection. I can build bases out of wood and try and make them look like realistic log houses and stuff. Some people build giant ass hotels and castles and stuff... You can build and experiment with things you normally wouldn't be able to do.
    • No offline raiding. This is a serious plus for me... The server wipes every 2 weeks and the night before the wipe they do a purge event where its a FFA PvP and it's just wild. A whole clan blew up my wood houses with rockets and it's just pure fun when the whole main town areas basically turn into a war zone. I stash my guns and sleeping bags out in the woods and keep coming back for more because you have 2 weeks to stash up and prepare.
    • If I want to PvP I can go to the designated monuments and do it... there's always people out on those areas. Sometimes you get jumped by 4 people, but most of the people are chill, and will let you pick-up your body after.
    • Player populations are very consistent (100 players online at primetime)... when I was playing on most 1 week wipe servers it would start out with like 300 players on wipe day and 3-4 days later it'd be at 150 and 5-6 you'd be down to 20-50 people online. So by the end all you're doing is just offline raiding because people server hop.
    • There's more stuff to do... in Rust you're limited to farming, building, or PvP. On a PvE server you can go to casino events, hang out in town, or dungeons/quests.. on-top of the regular stuff.
    • I realized I liked farming/base building + being social with people more than the games PvP.
    • I can play this casually... I don't need to be on every day because I'm not getting offline raided.

Does Rust create your character by detecting what your profile picture looks like?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 09:33 PM PDT

I have filthy Frank as my pfp and it gave me a bald Asian character. Then I created an alt account and made a black character in rust as my pfp, when I played Rust using the alt, my character became a black guy with short hair.

First raid went horribly, but it was still fun at heart.

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 10:38 AM PDT

Me and my friends tried raiding a 2 floor 2x2 and we got countered by an ak group and lost 17 satchels. It sucks, but today we're trying a smaller base with our 10 remaining satchels before wipe. Wish me luck ig.

How do you even do it?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 07:20 AM PDT

    Hi guys.

I've had Rust on my steam library since 2014. Recently went and had a look at what kind of game this is by watching the most entertaining YouTube content by Blooprint. I want to spend the next weekend doing such cool shit he does on this game or at least learn how to do it! Obviously I know I will not see the utter shit moments from a content creator, which made me step into the game with eyes wide open.

I feel like I got the grip on the basic cycle on how the game works. But this fucking game puts me back on the chair as soon as I think I've made progress.

Does this game just create illusions of power and success only for you to realize that eventually you will get fucked? HOW do you guys still climb on that horse and try and go for something that you tried to go for the whole last day?! How do you even find any motivation to start again from the scratch after getting your primitive ass whooped by a roof camping AK?

Got a revolver after countless of hours put into the game. I say to myself "fuck yea, at least I'm able to protect myself now." Bullshit. Craft myself some armor, went to bash some barrels for scrap and witness two arrows slicing through my brain.

Well thank god I have this shit weapon researched so I can use my hard earned metal fragments to craft a new one! Run into abandoned market, wait for scrap to be ready and boom. Double barrel into back of my brain. Never saw the guy in the market, never heard a step from him. Bye bye 500 scrap.

With fucking what mindset can I calmly step out of my ugly stone hut and figure this game out after this constant humiliation???

Server Won't Launch - Concerning logFile

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 06:34 PM PDT

Server Won't Launch - Concerning logFile

I had this issue on my dedicated server I'd been using for the last few weeks (worked yesterday even), so I just downloaded a fresh copy of the dedicated server from the website (quick start option) (pic 1), unzipped the file, started Run_DS (pic 2) and was met with an "Unable to open log file, exiting" message (pic 3) (I removed the lines to run update script to get this picture).

I tried removing -logFile "output.txt" and it went through world creation, but at the end it had a red message reading: UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "C:\path\Log.EAC.txt" is denied. (pic 4) (Also, there are already 11 sleepers?) When I tried connecting my game client to the server nothing happens, though it tells me it's already connected (pic 5) and the server still shows [0/500] players.

    Additional notes:

    - The server did not create its own output.txt file, and when I created a blank text file for it, the results were the same.

    - Client has no issues connecting to official or community servers, and there was no issue connecting locally to my server yesterday (and for months previously).

Has anyone had this issue or has ideas on what to try to fix it? Thank you!

If you had an abundance of T2 guns about 6 hours into wipe and a vending machine what prices would you sell them at?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 01:35 PM PDT

I have been pvping non-stop and amassed a rather large collection of T2 guns from P2 to SARs to tommies, etc. In total I have around a half box of 3 tommies, 6 sars, 2 p2's, 1 pumpy and 4 customs. What prices do you think I should sell each gun type at?

Its a 2x server for reference.

    edit:

I came up with prices for each gun.

A Custom costs 175 scrap or 35 HQM

A Tommy costs 200 scrap or 40 HQM

A SAR costs 250 scrap or 45 HQM

    A P2 costs 125 scrap or 15 HQM

took two vending machines for this but im making guns and selling them like wildfire! took about 40 minute since I made this post, already sitting at 700 scrap and 110 HQM just from selling and making guns as a solo. EZ.

    Combat

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 06:49 PM PDT

New to the game (30ish) hours. Pre addicted so far. My only issue is combat. Seems I always just get domed in 1 or 2 hit even when wearing armour like wood or bone (not that that's good armour). Also seems I do like half damage when I hit someone (On the rare occasions I do hit someone).

What are some tips to get better at combat? What's weapons and armour should I be going out with after I've established a base? Etc etc.

What's everybody's opinion on Rust officially coming to console? Is this a good or a bad thing?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 05:12 AM PDT

In other words, what is the Rust community's general consensus of the console port? Currently we don't have many details, but here are the things we do know (off the top of my head):

    • A development studio named Double Eleven is doing most of the work related to porting the game.
    • Garry said something along the lines of "60fps is a must for consoles." (Good luck, D11)
    • Cross-play between Xbox One and PS4 is going to be supported. IIRC Garry tweeted some time ago that there won't be cross-play between PC and consoles.
    • The port is releasing after the second half of 2020, which we've already passed. (This doesn't make much sense to me, why would they release it then for Xbox One and PS4 if the next-gen consoles are releasing in under a month? Does that even matter??)
    • Roleplayers :)
    • Pretty much confirmed release for next-gen: https://imgur.com/a/VYw4HK0 (bottom-right)

    Thoughts?

    Campfire and snow

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:18 AM PDT

    https://imgur.com/a/637dJ8m

Just want to preface by saying I love the work that's being done on the weather. I know that it's still a work in progress and everything is subject to change but I wanted to point out something I observed. When a campfire is lit within a base it lights up all the snow around it, even with the doors closed. Can anyone else recreate this? Just in case this hasn't been noticed yet wanted to point it out.

edit: I would also like to add that in the second picture the door is opened. I checked with the door closed. If you walk far enough away from the influence of the fire light the snow turns black again. I also turned off the fire to make sure it is definitely the campfire and not early morning sunrise affecting it.

    rust+ incorrect login issues

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 01:32 PM PDT

Whenever I try to log into rust+ I put in all my details, steam guard comes up as usual but after i put my code in nothing happens and it says "incorrect login"

By the way, I have tried this but to no avail, I have also tried re-installing the app but that did nothing either

If anyone else has a remedy to this I would much appreciate it
