Scientist bases. Server admin custom makes these, about 20 to 30 of them to raid. Fun stuff!

Group Size Balancing with Auto Turrets

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 05:00 PM PDT

Large groups exploit everything added to the game, leading to nerfs which end up hurting smaller groups/solos. This was the case for hemp and soon to be the case for tea. Now I know, power in numbers in all, but large groups become far too powerful and end up steamrolling servers, killing off the server pop. The biggest way to counter that is to limit the number of people who can authorize on auto turrets, ideally capped at eight people. Auto turrets are primarily used by large groups who will have sometimes 10-30 auto turrets in a compound. What this would mean is that a large group would have to either:

    1. Build multiple, smaller, more vulnerable bases
    2. Not use turrets, leaving them vulnerable to offline raids
    3. Decrease their group size

Overall, this change would not effect small groups or solos at all and directly effect zergs. This would lead to higher pop throughout wipes, less auto turret spam from groups, and less zergs in general.

TLDR: Limit number of players authed on turret

    Why am I so bad

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 10:25 PM PDT

I've been playing Rust for over 1,600 hours over the span of 2 years. I just can't seem to fight and actually win if it's a fair fight. The only fights I find myself ever winning are when I'm fighting a bow kid with guns or with a bow and boners any other fight I either get out manned, out skilled or just jumped too fast for me to do anything. I play solo 90% of the time and I find the only time i can actually progress are on dead servers with only about 20 people. How can I get better? It's extremely demotivating to finally get a gun or a good scrap haul and lose it in my first fight.

    "Rust Movie"

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 11:04 PM PDT

Does "Rust Movie" in a youtube video mean scripted?

I've seen some "Rust Movie" youtube videos that are obviously scripted and the youtuber makes it clear that it is.

Then some that don't mention whether it is or isn't, however, the term "movie" somewhat implies scripted right?

    Example: https://youtu.be/3kV3dnxJUcA (scripted or not?)

    Progression in this game... thoughts?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 12:41 PM PDT

I got into running a server about a year ago, and since then I've become very familiar with the game's mechanics, but I haven't played much.
What are your thoughts on the progression in the game RN? I've mostly seen complaints that players progress too rapidly when it comes to weapons.

The issue I see is that if facepunch makes the weapons too easy to obtain, then players who have been on the server for a few hours will make it too difficult for new players to establish themselves.
But if facepunch puts more roadblocks in the way of progressing, then only the really committed players will have access to guns earlier, while the more casual players or newcomers will have a disadvantage before they finally get a gun.

The other issue is the randomization and access to loot crates. Fresh spawns can immediately access military crates via the gas station and supermarket, plus it only takes a few hemp plants to make enough clothing to grab tier 2 military crates from the bigger monuments. This means that there's a pretty good chance someone finds a SAR or an SMG within the first hour of the wipe, but it's completely based on luck. The same is true for ammo, which can be frequently found in roadside toolboxes and supply drops.
The fact that you are pretty much required to research ammo before you can use the guns is a nice limiting factor, so you need to have a base before you can effectively use the guns, but you only need a lv1 workbench to make and research the pistol ammo, which an experienced player can easily accomplish in an hour if they get lucky.

What are your thoughts on the progression system as it stands, and what do you think can be done to improve it?

    Practice Raiding

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 10:19 PM PDT

Hey, guys. I'm relatively new, ~350 hours of in-game time, and I've been struggling with raids. Whether I'm countering raids, defending against one, or even doing the raid myself. In your opinion, what is the best way to practice these things? I've looked for raid sim servers, but they seem pretty nonexistent. and or dead.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
