    Rust explosives efficiency guide

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 10:03 PM PST

Found this in an old comment on Reddit from u/haazyreads, thought it might be useful to new players. Sure helped me.

Here's a breakdown of the pros/cons and effectiveness of the various types of boom in rust from a tier 0-3 order. Note, no melee tools included, even though jackhammers are a superb raid tool after you've already made it in and secured a workbench.

Handmade Shells (with eoka, DB, Pump, Spaz. Pipe too slow) Pros: incredibly sulphur efficient at destroying wooden doors, wooden walls, TC and even soft side stone. Cons: loud (without silencer), slow (without pump/spaz). Best uses: early game raiding a wooden base or soft side stone wall. Best with silencer on pump. Additional notes: don't use buckshot (unless you had a bunch spare from rig or something) as these cost less sulphur / damage. Incen shells can be used to raid even faster, but are more costly

F1 Grenades Pros: cheap, obtainable without sulphur or a BP (Bandit camp 8 scrap each), not bad at finishing off a door which has been brought low. Cons: slow, extremely inefficient against stone/metal/HQM, loud Best uses: destroying auto turrets on a budget (raiding a cave base bucket drop).

Beancan Grenades Pros: cheap per use, reasonably efficient, only requires t1 and 1 BP. Cons: loud, slow to destroy stone/metal/HQM, slow to craft. Best uses: solid for finishing a door which has been brought low by higher tier boom when time isn't really an issue.

Satchel Charge Pros: efficient (both time and sulphur wise) against wood when without a flamethrower (especially sulphur wise when used in conjunction with Beancans), efficient against sheet doors and stone walls, only requires t1 bench Cons: slow to craft (unless you have t3), duds waste raid time and can be risky in certain situations. Loud. Slow when raiding multiple doors and walls. Best uses: sheet doors (4) and stone walls (10) early game.

Explosive 5.56 Pros: most sulphur efficient explosive for taking down sheet doors. Can be queued up before heading to a raid as craft time unaffected by proximity to a bench. Can times sound like regular gunfire from far away (or with silencer) and attract less counter raiders. 1 cheap BP. Splash damage! Take 2 garage doors side by side quite cheaply. Cons: wrecks guns fast, forcing you to bring a workbench or multiple guns when going through many doors (this is an added costs to your raid, but not in terms of sulphur). Inefficient and slow against stone/metal/HQM walls. Best uses: finishing off a sheet door after 1 rocket, quickly breaking a TC, finishing a wall which is low, splashing doors with a wall for maximum efficiency.

Rocket Pros: massive splash damage and practical area denial when raiding. 2 or more rocketers firing staggered shots can splash a small breach such that it cannot be defended from that point. Fast. Opens large chunks of a base. The best raid tool for targeting large bases. Cons: 3 BPs to craft and use unless you find launchers, launcher on your back makes you a huge targets to, at and coming from a raid (this is negated slightly by having an M249 on your hotbar but not in your hands, as this takes priority over launcher on your back), blows up so much that you'll need to bring extra mats to seal. When not combined with explosive ammo are inefficient against sheet doors (except if just collateral being splashed). Best uses: by groups targeting large bases. Opens everything up so finding loot rooms is easier. The number one raid method, but costly and loud.

C4 Pros: super fast, efficient, low inventory space costs to bring to a raid, even if large. Cons: loud. 2 BPs required. Doesn't splash other walls. Best uses: raiding small bases and sealing immediately, or raiding a large base where you know direct path to TC. With C4 you can go to a raid without a spotter knowing you're raiding, then destroy 1-2 walls to TC and seal before counter raiders even get there. Great for small groups. A smart C4 raider can claim a base in a minute. Then continue to raid to loot rooms in the protection of the base.

Summary: overall as a vanilla player (either in a trio on a trio server or as a clan on a main server), I mostly raid with rockets targeting other large bases. C4 is a fine alternative and when used as per the above is best in class at that job. Lower tier explosive are just that - lower tier, and have trade offs accordingly.

Official Servers are Having Serious Problems

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 03:39 PM PST

Anyone else noticing these issues should reply listing there servers.

I currently am playing on US East Facepunch 1 and it is having serious problems with electricity, monument puzzles, fluid dynamics, and TCs eating recourses. Electricity is having problems where switches and what not are not functioning or having several minute delays. People are getting stuck in the puzzles at monuments and/or cant get in at the monuments. Fluids are broken where water is draining fast and planters wont absorb the water from sprinklers. TCs are also spasming out and eating resources to fast sometimes. The server was possibly DDOSed a couple times this wipe too although I can not confirm if it was an actual DDOS attack but it has fallen offline a few times and had rolled back 30 minutes earlier today.

Really hoping someone at facepunch sees this because it is getting really frustrating.

    Getting raided on softcore server?

    Getting raided on softcore server?

Place a bed close to your loot room. Grab your loot, F1 kill, repeat. I can't stop laughing at how close the raiders were to getting my juicy loot :D

Is there a key bind I could set to auto craft gunpowder ?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 08:25 PM PST

It's so tedious when you you have 40k sulfur and you have to turn it all into boom, is there a key bind I can put in f1 console to bind a key to auto craft for me?
