I think half of the community are begging for this

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 11:50 AM PDT

The big issue is with the new update, specifically the new colours and I think 99% of the community can agree on this, the new colours are making it absolute cancer.

When you're in the snow it looks like you've partaken in sexual activity

When you're naked and you get hit by an arrow, it looks like someone has just opened a wound and let it bleed all over your eyes

It is so god damn hard to see with these sort of things, im begging to get some toggle setting for the colours or some console command to disable these new colours and go back to the colours pre-update.

Also, the weather absolutely smashes my FPS as well as others and its just bloody annoying overall, would not mind if we got a toggle for audio and visual effects of it.

Would like to hear the opinions of people who think there shouldn't be an option to get rid of the colours / weather :)

(Btw, lower the brightness of the sun)

How to make your own rust radio.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 08:26 PM PDT

I figured out how to host my own radio station for rust. This is a quick and dirty guide, requires some experience with linux.

    Requirements:

    1. Have to be a rust server admin, this is required to add custom internet streams.
    2. Have to have a server for the radio station. I used droplet to spin up a machine for 5 bucks a month. You can always use local hardware if you open the ports up.

    The tricky stuff:

    1. To add stations the best method I've found is logging into the server as admin priv and running console command: `sv BoomBox.ServerUrlList name1,url1,name2,url2` // Literally that. No quotes, no spaces, all the other stuff I've read is wrong.
    2. The streams must be MP3 streams. I can't get ogg vorbis to work.
    3. The URL will show incorrectly in the boombox, don't sweat it. Just select station and hit save and make sure there's no tape in.

    Actually doing it:

    1. On your server, install icecast2. I used ubuntu 20, `apt update` `apt install icecast2`, it will ask you some basic stuff during setup. Go read the docs for this, it's simple and I won't get into it here. Once it's configured start it.
      1. A very painful part of this process was permissions. Icecast will not function running as root, so in the case of droplets you will need to a non-root user. If you need to add a user, follow the droplet guides: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-create-a-new-sudo-enabled-user-on-ubuntu-20-04-quickstart
      2. You also need to ensure the config files are accessible by this user. Use the command `chown -R <name>:<name> <folder>` on `/etc/icecast2/` and `/var/log/icecast2`.
    2. Grab some kind of source client for icecast. Google is your friend. Personally I'm using butt: http://danielnoethen.de/butt/ which is great for live audio through an input. There's winamp/foobar plugins that work better for playing mp3s, etc...
    3. Configure your source to point to your icecast server. Read the docs for the specific source you are using. Make sure this is using MP3 encoding.
    4. Add your radio station to the server urls: `sv BoomBox.ServerUrlList name1,url1,name2,url2`

Hope it helps someone else out there, it took a lot of time messing around to figure it out.

Here's a clip of it working:

REVERB BLENDING WHEN ENTERING MINING OUTPOST.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 08:31 PM PDT

There wouldn't actually be a large reverb because it has 2 open ends.

But if you insist on having one that triggers when you enter a certain space, it needs to blend in and not be abrupt, because it goes fully on even when you're outside of it.

Nerdy but it really bugs me lol.

    Rust Empires question.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 10:29 PM PDT

Has anyone played on the Rust Empires server? I was reading about it and found their rules page. It seems over regulated and not what Rust is meant to be. Has anyone given it a try? What are your thoughts?
