Just had one of my best experiences in Rust! Posted: 25 Dec 2019 07:54 PM PST It all started on an island, I decided this would be a good spot for a starter boat base, so I made my base near the ocean off the beaten path, researched away and got quite a few lvl 2 blueprints and an AK from researching. I had quite a few relaxed neighbors who weren't fortifying. so I decided to build my base a bit more so I could at least present a harder target compared to others on the Island, Well it worked for a bit... A large clan decided to setup shop on the land bridge connecting the area and must have put two and two together that people were still coming out with gear through their area. They started raiding at first just the 1x2's then the 4x4s by this time my base is a honeycombed 4x4 with a boat well (this is important later) I was out resourcing went back home and put my ore in the furnace, I hear a boat in the distance so I hop up to the top and see they're headed right for me. Rockets as soon as they land, they had been scoping my base out for quite some time and had a pretty good guess where my loot was, I rushed in and grabbed all my essentials, Scrap, Guns, Gunpowder cleared the TC and rushed to my boat well. I had a box near the boat filled with aquatic essentials, 2 scuba tanks and flippers + goggles. I raced and put it on not knowing if the raiders were behind me or not. Opened the garage hatch and didn't even bother closing it, swam straight down into the deep and kept swimming east until I couldn't hear rockets. All in all I went back and the raiders must have used a least 12-16 rockets to get a few gear sets. feelsgoodman.jpeg [link] [comments] | ||

Rust: The Ultimate Guide On How To Get The Maximum Performance Out Of Your Game Posted: 25 Dec 2019 08:01 AM PST Edit: I'm removing the -physics.steps launch option from the guide, as it can cause issues with certain server plugins. And some evidence suggests it can cause horizontal/vertical trajectory's when shooting things like Helicopters. Because of that, I am removing the launch option from the guide. The launch options also got a small update. Hello everyone and thanks for checking out my guide! Before we get started, I have a video version available here. I will warn you I am a complete squeaky fuck and you will probably be happier reading a badly formatted guide instead of following a video. Note: You might want to save this post so you can come back to it later in case something goes wrong. Part 1: Applying my custom Launch Options: Some settings buried inside the config are not configured correctly for the game, which causes unnecessary performance issues. My launch options fix those issues. To apply them: Open Steam and go to your library Right-Click Rust Go to Properties Click Set Launch Options And then paste the following into your launch options: -gc.buffer 4096 -itemskins 0 -hitnotify.notification_level 2 -gc.incremental_milliseconds 1 Note: -hitnotify.notification_level 2 changes the games bullet registration from client-side to server-side. What this means is that hit-marker sounds will not kick in until the server registers a hit, this may feel odd if you play with a very high ping, but I would still use it anyways. Part 2: In-Game Settings: For the guide, I made three pre-configured configs depending on how many FPS you want vs how good you want your game to look.. Choose one according to what you care most about.
Pick a winner, once you find one: Open Steam Go to Library Right-Click Rust Go to Properties Go to Local Files Click Browse Local Files Navigate to CFG Rename client.cfg to oldclient.cfg Make a new text document and name it client.cfg Open the new document (if it prompts you choose Notepad/Notepad++) Paste the config you want to use inside the new window Save the document Launch your game and adjust some preference related settings (like audio/sensitivity) Part 3: Windows 10 Settings (skip further down if you on another operating system): Hold Windows Key and hit I. Go to gaming. set 'Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar' to off. Go to 'Game Mode' and turn it on. Once you are done applying your settings, you are done with the main portion of the guide. You can leave if you want, but if you want to check out some other more experimental things you can try. Enjoy the next section ;) Part 4: Disk Optimization: The game has a lot of Disk (HHD/SSD) related stuttering and random drops, not to mention loading-screens on this game are absolutely terrible, the following steps will help with decreasing this and also it can help the life-time of your drive. Open files Right-Click one of your hard-drives Tools Under 'Optimize and defragment drive' click Optimize Optimize every single drive listed. Note, it is a common belief that defragmenting an SSD could reduce it's lifespan, while that is true, Windows 7-10 will not let you defragment an SSD and will instead use a tool called TRIM, which is beneficial for the health of the drive. So do not skip this step, even if you are on an SSD. And then go to 'Change Settings' under Scheduled Optimization, and then Check 'Run on a schedule' and set it to daily. Now under Drives, click Choose and make sure all drives are selected. Part 5: Disabling High Precision Event Timer High Precision Event Timer (HPET) is an event timer that can sometimes lower performance in Windows. Disabling it will usually improve your FPS. To do so, hit the Windows Key and type CMD. Right-Click Command Prompt and run it as an administrator. Then copy and paste the following and click enter: bcdedit /set useplatformclock false For some systems, this is already the stock setting, Note: If turning off HPET causes any problems, just reopen Command Prompt as an administrator, and type in the following: bcdedit /set useplatformclock true ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Experimental Section: Disabling Hyper-Threading: This is a slightly more experimental option, but to summarize, some games (most notably those on older engines) have problems with Modern CPU's hyper-threading technology. Unity is one of the engines that has some problems on multi-threaded CPU's, and through the BIOS, you can disable it if you'd like. Guides on how to do it for almost any motherboard should exist out there. Note, disabling hyper-threading can cause issues with some games and will lower performance in most CPU intensive applications like Photoshop, or video-editing software. Overclocking: Overclocking is essentially pushing the speed of certain components in your system past what they originally ran at. Overclocking a component will in-general make it better at applications as long as the overclock isn't unstable. In general, try to overclock the component that is bottlenecking) your system. How to Overclock Ryzen processors: How to overclock RAM (This may look different depending on your BIOS) Upgrade Path: While technically, this is not really what I'd call 'experimental' it would not be an appropriate answer for what I would tell everyone with performance issues to do, I want the guide to work on any system, but I will still mention a great upgrade path for Rust, as many people have the money they'd be willing to spend doing so.
Playing the game with below minimum-spec requirement PC's: Well, I would definitely not recommend playing with anything below the games minimum-spec requirements, it's definitely very possible to play the game with a relatively smooth experience.
