Rust + Young Teen = Serious Addiction potential? Posted: 29 Jan 2020 03:22 PM PST My Son (13) has been playing Rust at his Dad's house, and he has no (or very lax) limits on his playtime. Plus my son is also now talking about real world drugs and guns with adult "team members" on discord while he plays. When I ask him what he wants to do besides Rust, he literally has no ideas. Im asking you as Rust players, how do you think about the game's addictive tendencies? How can I help him to find some limits? How do you set limits yourselves? How can I protect him from adult subjects like LSD, illegal AR modifications, etc.. should I tell him to communicate with the other players that he is a 13 year old - or does that just open him up to worse behavior? Please dont troll me on my parenting, I am sincerely asking you as players, how should I help my son set some limits on this particular game? Is it possible? If I shut off the router then he will just end up spending more time at his Dads playing more Rust.. (you can joke that he is dedicated to the game, but it is a rather unfortunate situation) [link] [comments]

Modular cars are cool, but no one will use them if minicopters are just laying by the road Posted: 29 Jan 2020 08:19 AM PST TL;DR nerf copters when cars are added, fix monuments It's kinda obvious. Don't get me wrong, they are a good addition and fun to pilot. But they are very easy to find, cost some lowgrade and handful of metal frags to keep them running. In exchange, you can ignore everyone on the ground, get to anywhere on the map and skip the most profitable monuments' puzzles, in the matter of minutes. IMO any or all of the following fixes needs to be done as part of the Car Update:
No one seems to be talking about this, even a week before a major update. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:32 PM PST Me: vet - over 2k hours Her: noob - maybe 20-30 hours I'm helping her learn the game and letting her make all the decisions, but with my guidance. Something I say often, which you're all familiar with - the golden rule, is "don't trust anyone". We're on day two of a server for us, but 3 weeks past wipe. Got our starter up and running and have a couple of Tommy's at best. Two guys on a mini land on our roof and walk around a bit. We both stay quiet. We hear them taking off so we go outside. I'm behind wooden HE and peeking through the crack with my Tommy aimed at the pilot's head. They hear us and started to land. I see they have full road signs, one with AK and one with MP5. I tell her I have a shot - just give me permission and I'll take it.
She says, "I'm going to go talk to them and make friends". I mention the AK again and how helpful that'd be, but ultimately it's up to her.
She goes out and talks to them. I can overhear from behind the HE. They talk for a bit and then they ask if that's her base. She says no (good girl). They say oh, if it's your base we're not going to raid it. Otherwise we will. She comes clean. Tells them it's ours and she's with two other people and even gives our names (fuck!). They talk for a bit longer and fly off. I, being a bit nervous now, am running around trying to pick up supplies for a cargo ship run. Before I can get everything we need, we hear their heli again - landing on our roof. She goes out to talk to them. They just finished a raid and dumped a shitload of loot on our roof. Mats, guns, ammo, fuel, you name it. I joined them on the roof. We talked for a bit and I busted out the new instruments and we had a jam session. Then they took off and we went on the cargo run with our new supplies. Got 3 AKs, Launcher, C4, and a bunch of other goodies.
Since then they have given us any supplies we ask for (HE stone gate/walls, electrical components, etc..) mostly for free and when they got trapped in someone's airlock, we were there to blow them out. Now they stop by at least once a day to have a jam session on our roof. "Don't trust anyone" Maybe this noob is on to something. Maybe I've gotten in countless avoidable predicaments with this golden rule. Maybe there's a better way. Or maybe it was because she's a female and if it was me out there trying to talk to them they would have shot me down immediately and blew our base to hell. [link] [comments]
Ways to make rust feel less toxic Posted: 29 Jan 2020 12:23 PM PST Crafting free stuff for people is actually pretty fun and rewarding. Give nakeds or low to mid-tier players kits of metal tools, low-grade fuel, meds and materials. Wood or road sign armor and cloth always goes over well. Just build in high spawn areas and give it to people as they run by via shop front window. people love it. [link] [comments]
