    Guns need a change... do they?

    Guns need a change... do they?

    I've been seeing a lot of posts recently about how the gun meta needs changes and that the AK is stale and overused... and a LOT of people are mad about it.. but i think those malding people are completely overreacting.

    The AK/MP5 recoil are some of the dumbest things I've ever seen introduced as a meta change in videogames if im being honest. I know a lot of people are going to go straight to the comments and say shit like "oh you're just trash and cant learn the spray lol" but before you do I want those people to know its not about that. My AK/MP5/LR sprays are fine. I have zero issues controlling it. The issue is not surrounding my skill with the weapons.

    Its the recoil itself.

    It should NOT be a straight repeatable pattern that NEVER changes. I'm not one to use the argument that "oh its not realistic" because frankly I don't care. All that matters is the fact that scripters are free to have perfect lazer-beam accurate sprays any time they want with almost any gun. its absolutely fucking ridiculous. and said scripters RARELY get caught by anti-cheats because of how undetectable they can get making their bans almost solely rely on moderation teams to rid.

    The reason im upset about this is because of how easy it would be to change this, deplete the beamer script kiddies. So easy in fact, heres an example;

    par-randomized sprays.

    This might sound dumb but here me out. Give a spray pattern to each gun as rust has, but make a spray that loosely follows the straight perfect spray. for example I drew a picture here overtop the current AK spray;

    https://preview.redd.it/c16617fi1jv51.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=99088db9c097149b9d545ad6dac0e9c267ce879f

    The black dotted line is the spray the gun follows, the green line is the spray you shoot.my idea here is similar to Valorant's solution to scripters; a randomized spray that stays on track with a spray. This makes it easy to actually control and hard for script kiddies to script as it wont be perfect and makes it regular like us chums. Boom. now the scripters will have zero point in scripting as risking getting banned/scripting that is comparable to actual sprays is just dumb.

    tl;dr make the spray like Valorants, read the last paragraph. lazy ass's

    Change the gun system

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 01:19 AM PDT

    I've played rust since early 2017 so I've seen many differentiations of gun play. From RNG horizontal recoil to where we are now with the second iteration of learnable recoil patterns. The gun play system now compared to any iteration before is so stale and boring on top of the fact that it's by far the most easily exploitable system. I have two major reasons as to why I personally think the gun play system seriously needs a change, which I will list below.

    Before I do just a brief description of myself, I play main servers mostly within the clan scene, which entirely revolves around pvp. 16v16 fights of all full geared players where the goal is to win as many fights as possible and get as many aks as possible. Pvp is my favorite aspect of this game, the risk and reward involved when pvping in this game is like no other. Even though learnable recoil would favor someone like myself who has spent countless hours on the game practicing and perfecting my sprays as best I can, even now I think something needs to change.

    Reason 1: I just don't think the effort is there to moderate this game with a learnable recoil pattern. You can't even speak with Facepunch support about anything scripting/cheating related, they just say EAC handles all that. Yes people get banned every day, but scripting is so rampant in this game to the point where people I know personally who are extremely good players without scripts have even started scripting. They feel like what is the point in them practicing and training their recoil for someone who they know are scripting to be able to spray better than them. EAC is the anti cheat for so many different games, with big titles like Fortnite, there is no way they are going to be putting is as much effort into a smaller game like Rust. If Facepunch had their own anti cheat where the focus was only Rust, then learnable recoil would be great. Unfortunately this isn't the case and I feel as though the nature of this game is so unforgiving and frustrating for learnable recoil to be healthy without way better moderation. I know they're adding the ability to spectate players from their perspective now, it still puts moderation in the hands of the community rather than on the game itself. This change will do next to nothing because at worst a player gets banned from a specific server. It isn't a definitive "this guy is cheating", it's at the discretion of the admins of the server. This has been an issue essentially since learnable recoil came out and even after bloody mice and mice of that nature were banned it's still a huge problem; bigger than I think people even realize.

    Reason 2: The gun play is just so stale and boring. The ak is by far the best gun in every situation if you can use it. Sure the m249 can be more effective at long range with a 4x and silencer, but the ak is far superior at close range since you can move and spray the ak standing or crouching way better than the m2. Sure the LR300 can maybe compete, but it isn't cartable and if you're good with the ak it's still better. There's a reason why people who play in the clan scene on main servers where you're roaming 16v16 all day, everyone is using an ak even if you have LR's. Mp5 is a tier 3 weapon but I think most people toss it in with tier 2 weapons. Most players only use it in situations where they would be using a tier 2 weapon, and it far outclasses every tier 2 weapon. Better than all of them close range, and if you are good at spraying it'll even beat sar players at range as well. This game has basically become grind as quickly as possible to get mp5's, and then use mp5's until you have aks. Back in 2017 with RNG horizontal recoil and then aim cone, the gunplay was so much more diverse. Ignoring the p250 because I definitely don't think it should have been that strong, guns had their roles where they were better, or at least could compete at all stages. Spraying the ak wasn't long range wasn't efficient, so you had to tap. Guns like the semi rifle could therefore compete because you were both tapping and even though the ak did more damage if you aimed better you could win. SMG's at that time didn't have recoil and the ak had very intense recoil especially if not crouching so you would even see people roaming full metal armor and smgs if they were expecting close range fights, and they could also tap although they were definitely at a disadvantage in regards to damage. m92 could destroy an ak at close range. The ak was always the staple weapon, but it never felt like you were at such an insanely large disadvantage like it does now if you were trying to fight someone who had an ak and you didn't. With scripts and even just people being good at spraying the ak, there's no world where something like a semi can compete. Even the m39 with its high damage I'd rather just be spraying 30 bullets with an ak down range than trying to accurately tap at someone strafing and spraying. Add a holo sight to the ak and it's just not even close.

    I think having learnable recoil patterns in the game could be balanced, but just from what I've seen the effort isn't there from the devs for it to be healthy for hardcore players and casuals alike. If it isn't something completely new, I think the RNG horizontal was the healthiest and also most rewarding gunplay in the game, but at this point despite the extreme backlash the aim cone meta got I think I'd even rather have that. Scripting is such a problem and it's so hard to tell whos legitimately good and who's just scripting their ass off, Id rather just everyone be full laser beaming at long range at that point like CoD or Apex.

    This aspect of the game is something I'm passionate about and would love to discuss with people. I love the ak, it's iconic to the game it's not like I want to see the ak not be a good weapon. I just wish there was a bit more diversity and less of a massive gap between the ak and every other weapon in the game. If you didn't play during The RNG horizontal recoil pattern or aim cone metas and are interested in what it looked like, take a look at pvp videos from before around May 2017 for RNG and between like June and August 2017 for aim cone.
