    CoconutB DDoS Issue

    Posted: 30 Mar 2021 06:08 PM PDT

    DDoS

Streamer CoconutB and others he shares in his friend group are all falling victim to a (Distributed Denial-of-Service) DDoS of sorts attacking his connection to the server, and it's becoming more and more difficult to stream and create content for the game. If this continues I expect twitch drops to be affected due to the method of DDoS being leaked to the public

    D-Sync

When the DDoS begins it acts like D-Sync as Coco is not disconnected from his client nor the server. The D-Sync appears as he is frozen in time / unable to interact with his surroundings.

    Situation 3/30/21 (American Calendar)

As of 8:40 PM Est 3/30/21, the attacker took down his website as well as deleting his youtube account. Due to Coco talking about pursuing legal action against the attacker(s). The attack is still ongoing and the D-Sync is still active. I believe this issue will become more apparent on April 1st if he decides to continue the DDoS or others pick up his methods.

Found some interesting soviet history that may be a inspiration for Rust

    Posted: 30 Mar 2021 02:39 PM PDT

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazino_tragedy

Short summary: 6000 criminals, political threats, antisocial and others the soviet government thought was dangerous got sent to an island called Nazino. The people sent there got almost no tools, clothing or shelter. They only got flour as food, but since there is no ovens available. They mixed the flour with water and got dysentery. The people on the island made groups and tried to control the others and killed them to eat. Those who tried to escape the island got killed by guards and some guards actually went on a hunting trip to kill residents/survivors. Within 13 weeks, over 4000 died by starvation, slaughter or diseases.

Thought that this might be a small inspiration for Rust. As players live on an island that used to be controlled by USSR and every wipe everyone starts from nothing. Also the way we players decided to do in the game reflects a lot on the actions from actual Nazino event. Making groups to kill other humans and achieve domination of course. Also guards hunting the residents of the island reminds me of the attack helicopter in-game.

Can someone make me a list of items to target/keep

    Posted: 30 Mar 2021 10:32 PM PDT

I have never played, but all my pc friends tell me it is a great game. I'm so excited to play when it releases to console but looking into tutorials it looks very in depth. What items should I try to target that I would find a good use for

Is Rust going to be able to take advantage of "Resizable BAR" support?

    Posted: 31 Mar 2021 12:33 AM PDT

A new GPU feature called "Resizable BAR (Support)" can boost game performance by 15-20% higher frames. Here's an article if you're interested in specifics.

Nvidia's version of this feature only enables for games where it guarantees performance increases. (AMD's equivalent feature is enabled constantly, whether or not it increases performance).

So will Rust be able to get included on the list of games that can take advantage Resizable BAR? Because Cargo knows we could all use a frame-boost attachment slapped onto the GPU barrel.

    suggestion: graphics settings page rework

    Posted: 30 Mar 2021 01:02 PM PDT

Currently when adjusting many of the graphics settings it is not easy to notice what is happening in-game, especially if you are new. I've spent a decent chunk of time playing with the different sliders, but still have quite a few questions regarding how they fully interact with each other and the game.

So my suggestion is this: I think we should have updated/new tooltips for all the graphics settings. A brief description of what the setting is actually changing, and how it may affect performance would be very nice to see. A small example of what i'm talking about - the tooltip for Object Quality could say something like: "This setting affects the texture quality / render distance of in game objects, such as barrels, weapons, and structures..."

This seems simple enough to implement and will give people the opportunity to make better choices when adjusting their settings, instead of aimlessly turning everything to zero and having worse graphics than needed, just from a lack of information. I just got back into the game a few months ago after a 4 year break and was having a hard time figuring out why trees weren't rendering in until 2 meters away. I assumed it was "tree quality" that would fix this (as the trees were low quality), but after messing around for a bit I finally realized it is mainly tied to the "Max Tree Meshes" setting. This kind of information should be at our disposal and could help people understand what their system can/can't handle in game.

Another small improvement which can be done is to adjust the slider's functionality. Some of these appear to be broken, for example: Shader Level - There are only 7 different options, but yet the slider values range from 100 - 600. This makes it seem that a setting of 175 would have better visual quality than 125, when they are noticeably the same.. I think few other settings behave like this, so it would clear up a lot of confusion to simplify these into more 'realistic' values.

i've already posted this to the suggestions box on facepunch's site, but I wanted to hear some opinions or maybe even some additional suggestions here.

Is there a way to spread upkeep to the external TCs?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2021 11:11 PM PDT

Basically I am trying to find a way to spread out that total upkeep to 3 TCs. With a decent size base it's impossible to have more than 14 hours of upkeep stored in the main TC. If a base has 2 external TCs is it possible to distribute the upkeep?
