Why is everyone hellbent on chaos

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 10:37 AM PDT

I am on the console beta, and I know this game has been out for a long time, but I am confused at wtf is wrong with these servers full of monsters.

    First Day:

    • Wake up on a beach, get hit by a spear, and smashed by some dick in underwear.

    • Escape a group of underwear assholes throwing spears only to get massacred by shotgun-toting Chads and Brads for coming on to their property, which may as well be anything other than the underwear spear party on the beaches.

    • Finally, figure out how to hit red X's only to learn gathering any material may as well be a dinner bell asking the server to come shit on me for my 100 wood.

    • Wake up, escape asshole undie tribe, escape Brads and Chads testosterone fest, make it to a safe zone, get attacked by a pig, and learned that a spear would get you welcomed by machine gun armored Brad Chads that bend you over, and send you packing back to the glory of the undie beach f shore brigade.

    • Beg a friend to download the beta and see what kind of shit show this game is. He laughs, downloads, joins, gets his ass blown out by spear gang beaches.

•Finally, build a shelter and store up enough materials to justify what my body has gone through.

•Go to replace doors with keypads and metal doors. Learn that people have no issue waiting hours in bushes for a perfect time to bend you over.

•Brads at my house builds a ladder and say hi via a friendly face full of shotgun rounds.

•Chad proceeds to walk by as I lay bleeding out, watching him turn our quite little base into an f-shack of horror.

    • Both testi bros proceed to take everything and put a lock on our main storage box.

    • Before they leave us to rot in our empty and desiccated shelter, they make sure to tell us that they are only here to help teach us how to get better at Rust, and oh, they left use some pumpkin seeds.

I realized after yesterday that I played about 7 hours of a torture simulator, only achieving some charity pumpkin seeds and a first-class ticket back to spear island.

No wonder rust has so many scripters, learning the ak spray is quite frustrating.

I think I just found the best way to protect through doors, one of the ways are invincible to explo ammo

Setting up a fluid pump? Help!

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 06:27 PM PDT

Hiya, so, so far we have a fluid pump in the river and barrels on top of our base. Right now im manually filling then barrel so our sprinklers will work- but I want to connect the fluid pump from a near by river to be able to water the garden.

How in the devils crotch do I do this?

I know we need electricity but no search has shown me how...sigh.

New Players: Try Softcore Mode and/or low pop servers First

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 11:34 AM PDT

I'm seeing quite a lot of posts from new players becoming discouraged because they can't progress.

    RUST IS A HARD GAME.

Rust has a big learning curve, and on a normal community server ('hardcore' if you will), you are against MANY players who have THOUSANDS of hours on you. If you die very fast, it's not always cheating; there are a lot of GOOD PLAYERS too.

    • Base Design
    • Raiding
    • PVP [Prim, Tier 2, Tier 3]
    • Monument design and layout - knowing each monument inside out.
    • Scouting
    • (psychological warfare)
    • Other game-sense related knowledge (knowing how the engine works with object collision for example)
    • Using legal console commands such as "physics.steps 60" to crouch-jump over objects you normally aren't with the default setting (all good players have keybinds for these)

There is a lot to rust, and many players spend little time learning the fundamentals before hopping into a high pop hardcore server, getting destroyed, and then inquiring about what happened and what to do on the Reddit.

This is WHY! As a new player...

    • You should check out Rust player youtube guides to fill your head with many answers to questions you never asked, because you didn't know a certain element of the game existed to begin with. I'm not going to give a specific youtuber because searching "rust tutorial" will bring you to where you need to be, and everyone has their own favorite. Things will be told to you that you never knew.
    • You should, check out the UKN (and other) aim train servers, not only for semi and auto weapons but for BOW too, as a bow god you can go from primitive gear to Tier 3 if you find the right target and environmental conditions to kill them.
    • You should, check out BUILDING SERVERS like builder's sanctuary and learn even just the basics for a small base if you don't like building, and if you DO like building, learn how to build architectural marvels that are not only efficient and practical in any size, but extremely hard to raid.

In Rust, it's very powerful to be a Jack-of-all-trades and then later, a master of SOME or ONE of the core elements that make this game. A solid team in Rust usually consists of players that each have specialty in different areas.

EVERY decent player knows how to Make a basic low cost base, that takes quite some boom to enter from every angle. They are okay with most weapons, but good with a few. They are familiar with all monuments, but VERY familiar with a few, namely PvP centric areas. They know what to say, and what not to say to certain players, they know what do, and what not to do around certain players; street smarts. They know to place bags everywhere as they roam, and to show up naked to scout areas and as to not raise suspicion when scoping out how to raid someone's base effectively before you do so.

RUST IS AWESOME.... but RUST IS HARD.

Not only because you don't know that much about the game yet, but because you could be against others that DO (to an extreme amount of game time even, and in a large group).

This is why I'm making this 'small' PSA to put time in to learning the core of the game; practicing on servers that give you the tools to succeed. This is why I am suggesting to start out on a Softcore and/or low-population server so you can practice the game with a lower amount of user interaction from the hardcore community that always generally know exactly what they are doing when roaming.

Hope you're all having a good weekend; and if not, it will get better :)

Change the movement mechanics for a smoother experience.

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 03:11 PM PDT

I would recommend changing from a velocity vector to an acceleration vector with a velocity cap for movement. It would balance pvp so much on people who like to overexpose themselves peeking yet not get hit due to the velocity vector applied each time they strafe to a direction. When using acceleration one would reach full speed but after some time, maybe 0.5s or less. This would improve the risk reward of peeking wide vs staying behind cover as u cannot reach cover as fast if you over peek and therefore gets punished.

IMO This would add more depth to the pvp aspect of the game and improve risk/reward of widepeeks.

    [Helk please] Introduce animal breeding

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 03:49 AM PDT

So we all know cloth is renewable (hemp) and so is low grade (fish farms). What we are really lacking is tenable leather. If you are in a big group there is hardly enough animals to sustain the production of gear sets, especially early on. Also, horses hardly poop anymore.

Solution: breedable animals. First you have to catch/tame them. A lasso could be a good item for that. Then you place them in a breeding enclosure, that works similar to a planter box. Each animal can have genes, and you can mix/match them to obtain better results. You can them use them for their respective purposes:

    Pigs: Leather/Animal Fat

Deer: Food? Should give more leather.

    Chickens: Food/animal fat (/eggs??)

    Bears: Leather/Food/AnimalFat (/Base defense??)

Wolves: Leather (/Hunting/Base defense/get loot from kills??)

I fell like this would fit perfectly into Rust. And since we then have eggs as well:

    PIE
