    The never ending debate

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 08:59 PM PDT

The “admin catching cheaters” videos are just a tutorial on how to get away with cheating

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 07:35 PM PDT

Cheaters are lazy and usually new to this game. They wouldn't know what tools and methods admins use to catch them unless admins made videos catching cheaters, which they do. Not to mention the ones that intentionally just want to end up on the videos

    What do I do?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 06:59 PM PDT

So i'm new to rust. I play duo with my mate and we both have about ~150 hours each. We always start on wipe day , playing x2 modded servers so we have a fair chance, being noobs etc. However, we always seem to run into the same problem every wipe. The first day, wipe goes fine since it's all primitive etc, but as soon as second day rolls around we just get left behind. Today i logged on to find everyone in my area with guns and us still on bows.. It's frustrating because we barely win any fights anymore. Idk what we are doing wrong we just always struggle to advance from crossbows to guns.. Any help please?

Thank you. - A rust noob.

I'd happily take maps being 50% bigger than they are now if it meant the safe zone around monuments was significantly increased

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 07:39 PM PDT

As it is right now, and I've seen this in every server I've played, huge clans are making giant compounds RIGHT BESIDE monuments and just camping them from a roof for the first couple of days of a wipe, and this is happening on every server at every monument and it's just boring at this point

People are even making compounds to camp fucking abandoned supermarkets, I've played on a rustafied server today and even at 4am, when the pop is around 20~, I still get killed by a clan camping their compound AT A FUCKING ABANDONED SUPERMARKET OF ALL THINGS

It's just killing the game tbh because how do you counter that shit, you just have to get lucky and head to a monument when they're either out or not sitting on their roof and like what sort of fun is that meant to be?

As it stands right now, I (and a lot of people I've talked to about this) have 2 issues with the game, 1. Compounds are able to become WAY too big, it's outrageous the size some of these things can get, not only does it fucking decimate your FPS on an already unoptimized game but they can effectively wall off huge crucial areas of the map and you can do almost nothing about it and 2. They are building these huge compounds way too close to monuments because as it stands with a lot of monuments (particularly smaller ones that are basically the only chance solos have) you can literally build a square or less away from them and just sit there shooting people to your hearts content

I've seen this numerous times before, and numerous times today on different servers

oh and a side note, fuck the team UI, that was the most braindead addition to this game it did nothing but reward what was already the lowest skilled way to play this game and shaft everyone else

My favorite thing about Rust is that I can build a 16+ rocket raid base but my loot still looks like this

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 10:49 PM PDT

My base cannot survive 24 hours on an official server

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 11:30 AM PDT

I play as a trio - we're fairly good players (3 - 4k hours) and we usually get AK reliably within a day. This means we usually have plenty of enemies who want to raid us.

For the last 2 months, we have lived almost exclusively in multiple 2x2s. This is the ONLY way we have managed to stay unraided. But we fucking hate playing this way - we want space to move around, shooting floors, peekdowns, all that fancy shit that makes being in your base bearable.

No matter what base we make, regardless of how many external TCs we place and compound layers we have, we ALWAYS get raided the following night. We have absolutely sweated out 50+ rocket bases, and ALWAYS get raided offline by people who will happily just go through 3 armoured walls on day 1 of wipe.

What, if anything, can we do to avoid this? As things are, we just don't have the motivation to continue - it just seems pointless.

Possibility of the the removal of force wipes?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 06:32 PM PDT

Personally, I think I'd enjoy being able to have servers that don't force wipe (atleast not every month, maybe every half year). Do you think this is in the future of rust? pros and cons of it?

Just a quick question about sound

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 05:11 PM PDT

Something I've noticed from watching youtubers before I'd gotten the game is they'll be like "oop, I think I heard a footstep" and they crouch down and look behind them and like 50 meters away there's a guy running by. Do I need to fidget with my settings to make footsteps more apparent? Or is it just something you get better at identifying with experience? Cause I can't hear people for shit.

With the plans to scrap Hapis being scrapped, as a Hapis lover, here are a few suggestions for when the map is looked at.

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 05:19 PM PDT

    1. Cave bases - Cave bases are the meta on Hapis and there are TONS of caves. I think it would be perfectly fine to flat out remove some of the caves in lieu of condensing the play area, or adding more landmarks. Cave bases are incredibly frustrating because of how much they add to raid cost, and how they're basically impossible to online-raid.

    2. New player confusion - Hapis isn't confusing for veterans, but it is when you're new to it. Monuments are different from what procedural has, and some of them aren't even marked on the map, such as the towers for blue cards which are the only way to get red cards. These monuments are really cool, but kind of unknown to new players. Different monument good, unmarked monument bad.

    3. Please reduce how much mountain there is. Hapis isn't a big map, it just looks and feels big because of the mountains seperating everything. Don't lower them and make them easy to build on, but please, they don't need to be skyscrapers.

    4. This sort of coincides with point number 3, but nodes are super infested. You can go on a farm run of a couple squares, and then by the time you get back to where you started, the nodes have already respawned, this makes farming sulfur incredibly fast... which makes getting offlined even more likely than usual, when a veteran solo player can farm up boxes of sulfur in an hour.

There are a couple of other pain points, but the map itself is a lot of fun and these are the main issues that I find with the map.

That said, for any that are interested, Here's a great video to watch to learn something about the map if you're confused! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzWolN3wQoY&t=27s&ab_channel=Mr.Bengals

PSA: admins can turn boat/heli spawns back on in their server

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 12:10 PM PDT

there are settings that an admin can edit that re-enable helis and boats spawning where they used to, I recently confirmed this on a test server. just figured I would post this in case people wanted to use the old system.
