    A Filthy Roleplayer's Rust Wishlist

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:15 AM PST

As a roleplayer who prefers running taxi services to learning spray patterns and does not consider a base complete without a working phone, I have a few things I would love to see in Rust to enhance my enjoyment of the game.

    1) A cooking system

Many other survival games have systems for combining and cooking foods to improve their properties. I think Rust should be the same. The fact that we cannot cook any vegetables is pretty disappointing already, but I think that combining things like mushrooms and meat to make stew or meat with pumpkins to make a stuffed gourd that could be roasted would be pretty neat. I am not a programmer, but I imagine that the system used for the brewing table that combines ingredients and has a cooking time could be modified to suit this sort of gameplay.

Plus, with the added cars I could finally fulfil my dream of being an elotero driving around and selling corn slathered in mayo to nakeds while dodging AK fire.

    2) More crops

One thing that would improve this cooking system and crops in general would be the introduction of new crops like rice and tomatoes. Just let me build farms that are not exclusively for scrap. Also, adding seeds for sale at the barn would allow for more foot traffic near those areas that seem mostly barren at the moment.

    3) Fishing

As it stands the fishing system is really sad. Shoving pickles into traps is just boring and having to run around repairing them all is tedious. I know the fishing rod has been in the game for a while and it is supposed to be functional at some point in the future, but I had a few ideas for the system since it still hasn't been released. Varying bait types attracting different fish in different biomes would be great. Maybe corn is better for catching trout or carp (since real fisherman use it as bait) or a system with different grades of lures findable in loot containers or purchasable from the fishing village.

ALSO a deployable for use on ice sheets that would be a small igloo with a door and a fishing hole to catch fish through the ice so I can live out my Inuit fantasy.

    4) More low tier guns

Sure. AKs and MP5s are fun. I love blasting the big boys as much as the next person, but I honestly have more fun running around with a double barrel and a revolver or semi-auto pistol. I think that there should be a low teir version of the bolt action rifle. Something like a lever action would be nice. Or another manual cycling sort of weapon like a rolling block rifle would add more opportunities for lower tier combat to be varied.

    5) More dumb toys

The summer update with boogie boards, waterguns, and pools was really fun and I think another great opportunity like that exists with sporting equipment. Let us make various balls like footballs, basketballs, and soccer balls so we can make our sporting set up. It could even be released alongside some skins for the coffee can set that is like a hockey mask or football shoulderpads. Let me run my own World Cup or dodgeball tournament in Rust.

Or lawn games! I would love to play a game of lawn darts or lawn croquette with the boys behind our big ol stone walls would be pretty fucking lit.

Another avenue for dumb toys could come from extreme sports. Introducing a skateboard so we can grind those gnar ramps at launch site in a hazzie or some rollerblades for tearing up the mean roads would be great.

    Thanks for reading.

I realize this post probably does not appeal to a lot of rust players as the demographic tends to look like people that get a hard-on from raiding and PvP, but I think rust has the opportunity to allow for that sort of gameplay while also having survival elements that feel more integral to the game and less tacked on.
