me going deep on a rust streamer :)

I'm participating in Rust's Merch contest, what do you think?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 11:48 AM PDT

This game doesn't need new content, it needs balancing of the content already available.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 10:16 AM PDT

I'm sure most people would agree with me on this, devs have added a ton of content those past few years, however most of it remains unused by the majority of players because it's just not worth the effort.

The most blatant and recent addition that nobody uses is the cars, I know I'm far from being the only one that has said it, but after a month of playing it has become quite obvious that pretty much no one use them because of how expensive they are to maintain, how many components are needed to make one usable, and how little useful they are at actually driving long distances as the map just isn't fit for cars, proc gen makes it too big of a hassle to try to drive off roads, and roads are just not generated in a convenient way to go from point A to point B, making horses way more practical and a lot easier to take care of.

The thing is, that was just an example of unused content, the list goes on:

    • Excavator: again not worth the effort, and only viable for bigger clans and zergs who can actually defend such a monument.
    • The game's AI: I don't think I even need to point anything, not only the animals, but the scientist's AI are years behind any other recent game, animals' AI are just attack or run, and scientist's is the same, but with an aimbot. Sure, it makes them a challenge to some degree, but not in any way that anyone would consider fun.
    • Monuments and places like abandoned cabin and swamps: I'm not sure what the point of these places, I've seen some player have fun making their base in swamp, but I wonder how as it's so demanding and the FPS there are just awful, and the abandoned cabin just seems like it would be better off the game, there is no point building near it as there is so few lootables and takes up way too much space for something that useless.
    • Monuments like military tunnels, powerplant, junkyard or harbor: none of these are really interesting to go to as there are much better alternatives, military tunnel has kind of become a joke since oil rig was added to the game (although it might be a little more on par with military tunnel with the recent nerfs oil rig has received), but military tunnel is easily one of the hardest monument to actually finish if you're playing on a high population server, as it's way too easy to camp people who are doing it at the end or at the entrance, scientists deal way too much damage as they've got an aimbot, and the fact that they can respawn on top of you if you take too much time. Powerplant's blue card puzzle has less loot than a lower tier puzzle like the sewer branch's. Junkyard is not interesting because of how bland it is, and because of those invisible barriers preventing you from freely roaming around it, and who became useless since the addition of helis. Harbor is just too big for too little to do there, again, there are much better alternatives.
    • Quarries: to be honest I'm not even sure if they're still in the game as how forgettable they are. They are by far the most useless places that you go to in the map. I've NEVER seen anyone use them since they were changed from being able to be placed manually. They either need to go back to how they used to work, rebanlanced, or outright removed from the game.
    • Early game weapons: this might be a controversial idea, but spears for example used to be actually a go to to snowball as you could kill a fully geared player if you had the skill to throw them properly which isn't easy, although I can see why that was changed, but I really find it that it was what gave Rust its past identity that someone who got good with such primitive weapons could roll onto higher geared player if they just were better. It's also needed to be said that other cheap weapons like eoka or compound bow can do what I said above, which shows that spears shouldn't be so bad compared to them.
    • Grenade launcher: I don't recall a single game where the existence of a grenade launcher was a pleasant experience. It's way too over powered and can mostly be hoarded by big groups who can run oil rig again and again.
    • Scopes, silencer and L96: they're either used for roofcamping or for really uninteresting fights. Back in the days hitting a 300m+ shot with an iron sight bolty was seen as something impressive, which is something that barely ever happen now. Silencers are too op, being show while not knowing from where is stupid, you should have a way to pinpoint from where you're getting shot, because as it currently is your only chance is to wall and pray that you're not visible anymore, not to mention silencer coupled with a scope on a weapon like LR or M249 is pretty much a death sentence for you. About the L96, it's just not fit for a game like Rust.
    • Loot tables in barrels and crates: as many other people mentioned, basic roleplaying items should be a default BP and not be dropped over and over while farming barrels or crates. Car parts ruined red crates. Lots of important items are way too hard to stumble upon while farming, for example let me state the odds of dropped a garage door, one of the most important item in your base: you have 1% to drop it in either a sunked crate or a brown crate, or 0.2% on oil rig scientists. This is BEYOND stupid, you shouldn't need to pull an all nighter on wipe day just to find something so unlikely to find just to be on par with other players who got luckier than you and to have a chance to not get offlined as easily. There is a lot more to be said about the loot tables, but that would need a whole post dedicated to it.
    • P2W elements: there was another post recently made that listed those, but you SHOULDN'T need to buy something on the steam market to have access to crafting it, the most obvious ones at that are the bandana, the boony hat (both combined make for something better than wooden helmet while costing way less ressources) and the summer DLC's boogie board and tube.
    • Raiding costs VS building costs: online raiding is something that a lot of player just give up on because how hard it is to successfully do so, it costs way too much and it's way too easy for the defender to for example armor up his core after hearing the first rocket hit his base. I don't have a particular idea that would fix this, but that's what the devs are there for.
    • Food in its current form is way out of date, the food system hasn't ever changed since legacy, it would only make sense to introduce a cooking system maybe like BOTW's instead of adding stats altering tea. (WHICH DOESN'T FIT IN A REALISTIC ORIENTED SURVIVAL GAME PLEASE DEVS WHAT THE HELL)

That's all I could think of off the top of my head, everyone is welcome to add stuff I forgot to point out. My point with this post is to show that the game has enough for content for now, and that the devs don't have to try to force spoon feed the players with new stuff that won't be balanced as it just seems balancing isn't their priority. Thanks for reading everything, hope this can get some attention as Rust is still my favorite game after 6 years of playing and it disappoints me to see it going in such a direction for the past 4 years.

me and my friends were talking about a tiktok of a siege player saying the recoil in siege is more difficult than rust. so i made this in 2 minutes on snapchat, so i thought i’d put it here seen as how it’s rust related. (sorry for shit grammar i’m on mobile at 2am)

The cars need to be more viable for them to be worthwhile at all.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 06:10 PM PDT

I think that for cars to properly enter the meta after using them for the past wipe is to make them much more accessible for people to use. There is no point in investing the time and energy it takes for a car to work for what it accomplishes. That is why I feel the cars struggle at maintaining any place within the meta for the foreseeable future. I think that if you didn't have to put all the parts in the engine to get the car running and only had to provide fuel and resources to repair the car they would be a lot nicer and easier to use for quick transportation.

Would be so dope, crafted with the new berries and shrooms, 3 different poisons

Slow - Movement slowed, reload time, med time

Dot - draining life, food, water from a player

Senses - weakening sight and hearing for a moment.

    No PVP Focused Teas!!

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 11:31 AM PDT

Alistair, Helk, if your reading this I beg you -- Do not implement any teas that would buff a characters health, damage, speed or anything else that could give someone an advantage in PVP. One of the main reason this game is so fun is because with just sheer skill you can take on an opponent with much better gear.

Please I beg you don't do this. Look at ARK. one of the worst parts about that game is that the alpha tribes are all max level, so no matter how skilled of a player you are their increased health pools make it so there's no chance you can kill a better geared player... it just sucks , it's a shitty game mechanic, DON'T RUIN THIS GAME!

Thought new skins would be out by the time I finished this :(

imo I only have 1 issue with rust, early game.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 02:38 PM PDT

I dont like how there are so few ways to get a bow, melee weapons have no leway against bows and guns at all no matter the 'skill'(If I have a bow I can actually have a chance against multiple enemies). early game is mostly all luck on whether you find hemp or get lucky at a recycler with your little spear (A waste of time running around). (of course you can go to safe zones.. but thats too safe/boring imo, the surrounding area though is mostly populated tho so it kinda makes up for the 'too safe' argument)

Just add 1-2 cloth from certain trees or something. (maybe a slingshot would be good for 25/30 cloth? half the damage of a bow, same startup but at least you could still beat at least a solo bow enemy for another snowball option)

everything else just needs tweaks, after that they can start adding/buffing/removing imo.

Crafting Blueprints = 1 click Outfit

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 05:40 AM PDT

Hello, so everyone knows that crafting an Outfit after Death takes some time and you need to find your Outfit items in the crafting menu. So I thought we could add a Blueprint System. You create an own Blueprint with items you like to craft, and if you have all the needed items for the crafting, the items are added to the Crafting Queue. I would even add a crafting time Penalty. So it would not be too strong. It should be just a feature that makes the life easier. I was thinking also about blueprints for Guns/Ammo/flashlight(But I am not sure about these) or even for other items.

What do you think about this idea ?
